No classes are scheduled yet for 2024, but we welcome you to organize one or contact me if you are interested.
Join us VIRTUALLY in the traditional and ancient art form of the Ukrainian people, the Pysanka. This class will be held on the Zoom online platform, so anyone anywhere in the world can join in. We'll start out with some Pysanka history and traditions and then delve into the process so you can get started. It takes about 3 hours to make a Pysanka, I will be with you the whole time. You can join us from your phone or computer. To get onto Zoom you will need to register a few minutes before the class begins, Zoom does not charge for this. The link and some other educational documents will be shared with you when you register and complete payment. The class fee is $25 per person plus supplies and shipping (if needed). Payable via Venmo, Paypal or eTransfer (Canada). You are welcome to use your own supplies or you can purchase them here and we will ship them to you in time for the class (2 weeks notice required, USA only). We look forward to this event and spending some time with you.

Supplies you will need (those that are available to purchase here are starred*)
*Kistka - writing stylus (suggested to have 2 per person: a fine or medium tip and a wide tip for filling in)
*Beeswax - must be clean and filtered so as not to clog up the kistka; candle wax and paraffin will not stick to the egg and if colored could stain it
*Dye - I recommend at least 2 colors, the colors are used from lightest to darkest. Also if you remember your color mixing wheel from school days, if you put a yellow egg into blue, the egg will turn green, and so on. Traditionally, the colors used, in this order to not mix colors, are yellow, orange, red and black. I have numerous colors available of dye specifically made for pysanky, they can last a number of years, most use water and white vinegar. Make in a wide mouth jar or tupperware container with a lid, use a tablespoon to put egg in and out of the dye. Alternatively you can try making your own natural dyes, they will not be as vibrant. Here is a link to a number of natural dyes www.pysanky.info/Natural_Dyes/Dyestuffs.html.
Candle and holder - have a few available as they burn down
Pencil - for minimal drawing on your egg
Kleenex - for holding your Pysanka
Paper towels - for cleaning kistka and drying dyed eggs
Eggs - raw chicken egg, unrefrigerated, no blemishes or cracks, cleaned with a vinegar and water wash. Have a couple on hand. No need to drain in advance. You can use any kind of egg - farm, duck, goose, parakeet, ostrich etc. I just get mine from the grocery store, check well through the box to make sure there are some good eggs for this purpose.
Rubber bands - a few sizes that can wrap around the egg are helpful
Design - search Pysanka/Pysanky online and you will be overwhelmed with the options. If you are a beginner, choose a design that is not too busy and does not have a lot of fine lines. If you need suggestions let me know.
Cotton rag - for removing wax
Iron - get a used iron for removing the wax. Not a necessary supply but does make wax removal easier.
Green or Blue Food coloring - not a necessity but helpful if doing small areas like leaves or flowers.
